Cleta Mae
Hooten
Dec 30, 1941 — Oct 22, 2025
Cleta Mae (Dodson) Hooten, age 83, of Point, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025. She was born at home on December 30, 1941, in Rains County, to Less Dodson and Viola (Little) Dodson. Cleta was a devoted homemaker and a lifelong member of the Point Church of Christ. She took great joy in caring for her family, tending to her flowers, and preparing delicious meals that brought everyone together. Known for creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, she made sure lunch was served every day—a tradition her family will always cherish. A devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, MeMe was known for her warm hugs and her listening heart. She delighted in sharing her love of cooking, passing down cherished family recipes and stories that connected generations. A gifted storyteller, she could turn even the day's news into a moment of laughter and reflection. Alongside her three sisters, she helped found the Golden Glow Candle Company—a family endeavor that reflected their shared creativity, faith, and love of beauty. As the proud proprietor of the Golden Glow Candle Shop, Cleta's artistic spirit shone brightly in every candle she poured—her light simply could not be contained. Her legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will continue to shine through her family and all whose lives she touched. Her light will never fade but will glow on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Hooten; her parents; her son, Don Hooten; and her sisters, Margie Carpenter and JoAnn Hooten. Cleta is survived by her son Marty Hooten and his wife Tammy; grandchildren Jessica Thompson and husband Kyle, Devyn Dowdle and husband Brandon, and Jordan Hooten; and great-grandchildren Shelby, Lincoln, and Aiden. She is also survived by her sister Bobby Underwood and husband Ricky, and sister-in-law Glenda Potts, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and beloved friends. The family will host a memorial service at Point Church of Christ on November 8, 2025, at 10:30 am to celebrate Cleta's life and the love she shared with all who knew her. Cleta will be remembered for her kindness, devotion, and the warmth she brought to every gathering. Her legacy of love and faith will live on through her family and friends.
