Obituary

Connie Opperman was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, friend, and devoted follower of Christ. She went home to Jesus on October 28, 2021 in Dallas, TX after a long battle with COPD. She was born on August 12, 1951 to Walter and Evelyn Maxine (Baughman) Sutton in Springfield Il. As the youngest of four girls, she was often seen as a tomboy which served her well later in life when she spent many afternoons bug collecting with her grandson and adding rocks to the collection they started together. In her life, she chased many creative passions, from jewelry, purse, and clothing making to nail tech; she filled the world with beautiful things to make people smile. She was a talented seamstress, even making her oldest daughter's junior prom dress. Her granddaughters remember her by the beautiful hair bows she often made them and her daughters are left with a collection of handmade dolls she made just for them throughout their childhood. Wherever she went she made friends with her cheerful attitude and willingness to help and give. If she found out what you liked, she would make it for you even if she only met you once. She moved to Denver at the age of 15, taking a job as a live-in nanny to support herself in her parents absence. She would eventually meet and marry Robert Opperman and have two children. Though their marriage ended in 1994, they remained close friends and co-parents until Robert's death in 2004. She met Dennis Cuypers in 1999, and they spent many happy years together on the farm. In her retirement she lived in Louisiana and Texas to be closer to her daughters. Connie is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Evelyn Maxine and her sisters Joanne and Kathryn. She is survived by Dennis Cuypers, her sister Susan, her Daughters Megan and Mara, her nieces Melissa and Kelly, and her grandchildren Gavin, Audra, and Vera.
