Obituary

Don "Buddy" Pace, a longtime resident of Greenville, Texas, where he lived for 30 years before moving to Scurry in 2024, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born on May 19, 1938, to Eleanor Maurine Tillery and Eugene L. Pace. Don was a man of remarkable strength, unwavering character, and a heart that welcomed everyone. The word "formidable" was often used to describe him—a fitting reflection of his strong presence, determined spirit, and the lasting impression he made on those fortunate enough to have known him. He possessed an extraordinary gift for storytelling and could captivate anyone willing to listen. Whether sharing stories from years gone by or recounting the military history that fascinated him throughout his life, Don had a remarkable way of bringing the past to life with his wit, humor, and vivid recollections. Don proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a firefighter, a role that reflected his courage, dedication, and willingness to serving others. He found joy in life's simple pleasures, whether it was spending time in the water, cheering on his favorite sports teams, or enjoying a spirited game of spades, croquet, or solitaire. More than the games themselves, he treasured the conversations, laughter, and companionship they brought. Family was the foundation of Don's life. While he was a devoted father to his own children, his love, guidance, and generosity reached far beyond them. Countless people were blessed to know him as a father figure, mentor, and trusted friend, especially those who lovingly called him Pawpaw or Pops. He was a constant source of wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. His heart was always open, and he had a unique way of making everyone feel like family. Don is survived by his children, Mike Pace and wife Debbie of Corinth, Terry Pace and wife Donna of Cleburne, Cliff Pace and wife Kimberly of Fort Worth, Monica Morrow and husband Mike of Scurry, Angela Selzer and husband Charles of Wills Point, and Holly Daniel and husband Richard of Terrell; his sister, Norma Jean Breznik; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous other beloved family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Lee Pace; his parents, Maurine Tillery and Eugene L. Pace; and his precious great-granddaughter, Gracelynn. Don's legacy is one of love, resilience, generosity, and steadfast devotion to his family. His stories will continue to be shared, his laughter fondly remembered, and his example carried forward by the many lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
