Obituary

Dorothy Pope Stapleton went to her heavenly home on August 10, 2026, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of faith, family, and unconditional love. A lifelong resident of Hunt County, Dorothy made her home in both Greenville and Cash, where she was known for her warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to the people she loved. Dorothy was born on February 18, 1925, in Hunt County to Pearl Clark Pope and A.T. Pope. On March 12, 1944, she married the love of her life, L.D. Stapleton Jr., beginning a life together centered around family, faith, and love. A devoted Christian, Dorothy was a faithful member of VanSickle Baptist Church. Her commitment to her church was evident in the many ways she served and participated. She achieved perfect attendance for ten years and was actively involved in VBS, the Angel Tree Project, and the Women's Missionary Union. Her faith was not simply something she practiced on Sundays—it was woven into the way she lived her life and cared for others. Above all, Dorothy treasured her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and being a nanny to her grandchildren brought her tremendous joy. She had a special way of making those around her feel loved and cared for. Her unconditional love, kind heart, and ever-present smile will be remembered by generations of family who were blessed to know her. Dorothy is survived by her son, Gary Stapleton; daughter, Carol Killough; daughter-in-law Leann Stapleton; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Rachel Morgan, Leon Pope, and Jerry Pope; and many loving friends and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, L.D. Stapleton Jr.; son, Larry Stapleton; grandson, Brian; granddaughter, Jennifer; daughter-in-law, Susie Stapleton; son-in-law, Dale Killough; and her beloved siblings Billy, James, Jimmy, Irene, Jean, Betty, and Alta. Dorothy's life was a testament to the lasting impact of a woman who loved deeply, served faithfully, and always had a smile to share. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort knowing she is now at home with her Lord and reunited with those who went before her.
