Obituary

James Travis Adams, 92 of Wolfe City passed away at his home on December 21, 2023. He was born on July 23, 1931 in Center, Texas to William Walter and Linda Louise (Humphries) Adams. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. A great man passed from our lives last Thursday, December 21st. He was my Dad. He went by many names. Son, to William Walter and Linda Louise Humphries Adams. He was fiercely proud of his father, whose military career paved the way for my dad's military service in the Air Force. He loved and respected his mother, who raised he and his older brother Walter by herself for long stretches when military obligations necessitated. When my grandmother was diagnosed with Parkinson's, my dad made regular trips to Center, Texas to see to her care until her death. Grandson, to his Humphries grandparents with whom he spent so many summers, riding his bicycle out of Center, Texas the 8ish miles out to the old home place to help with farming, in the orchards, and when the rare opportunity arose for one on one time to go hunting or trapping with Papa. Husband, to my mother for nearly 40 years before they separated and divorced. My mother had a stroke and was left paralyzed shortly after they married. I never once heard my dad complain about the cards he was dealt; he took responsibility to care for my mother. And when I was born, he was more than the casual dad of the era, stepping in to help care for a baby throughout my mother's limitations. Husband, for a 2nd time, to the kindest woman who treated him with love and compassion and who I've had the joy to look upon for advice and reassurance for more than 25 years; you're very special, Betty. Friend, or J.T., to many who he worked with at Delta Airlines upon completing his military service. A few special friends at Delta, who helped build the house where ultimately he died, helped cut hay, haul hay, who joined in a number of hunting trips, and who had tireless conversations with my dad on all things cattle. Friend and Neighbor, to many in the Greenville & Wolfe City areas, church friend, and advocate for so many improvements over the years to roads, utilities and so much more. My dad could speak on most any subject related to the area or farming in it. Grampa, to 2 granddaughters and 1 grandson, who he spoke of with such pride; it shows in his expression in every picture of birthdays and Christmases. And, Dad, to one very fortunate daughter who never once questioned if she was loved, or respected, who relied on her Dad for advice on nearly every aspect of her life. There were special times, accomplishments, a few setbacks and disappointments, but throughout there was always encouragement. Now there's a void. You were so loved and respected, and you will be so missed. I love you. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, January 4, 2023 in the Lynch Funeral Service Chapel in Greenville. Visitation will begin one hour prior at 9:30 AM. James will be laid to rest at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas at 2:00 PM later the same day.
