Obituary

John Willard Cox of Caddo Mills, passed away in his home, peacefully surrounded by loved ones at 1:30pm on December 2, 2021. John was born in Preble County Ohio, in Campbellstown on August 8, 1939 to Marie and Willard Cox. John had one brother, Joseph Cox, four years his elder. John was proceeded in death by both of his parents and his older brother. John spent the first 17 years of his life on the family farm. He and his brother were dedicated to Boy Scouts rising to the level of eagle scouts. John left home after his graduation from Jackson Township in 1957 to join the Army serving in Alaska. After his short stint in the army, he moved to East Texas working on a seismograph crew where he met Carron Joyce May in 1961, in Sulphur Springs Texas. They married on April 27, 1962 and had Tyson, Trent, and Tony in 64, 66, and 70, respectively. John joined the Freemasonry after marrying and trained as a mechanic working for Freeman Oldsmobile in Dallas until returning to Ohio in 1971 to work on the family farm. John would eventually return to Texas in 1975, to start a successful construction business in Caddo Mills, which he and the family owned and operated until his retirement in 2004. John never lost his love for farm life and spent most of his retirement raising cattle in Texas. John was a devoted husband and father, selfless with his time and energy ensuring that his role as a provider and protector were never compromised for lesser pursuits. His smile and laughter were infectious. His love for work was inexplicable. With fierce loyalty and incomprehensible dedication, he raised three sons without favoritism. With his country wisdom and quiet way, his advice to pursue a profession for the joy of the labor still shapes a generation of those who were privileged to hear his council and follow his example. If love is as love does, then John Cox left a legacy for those who were fortunate enough to experience his lavish generosity, in making his affection known through his support to those around him. Left to cherish his life and memory are his wife of nearly 60 years, Joyce, and his three married sons, Tyson and Jamie Cox of Greenville Texas, Trent and Tabitha Cox of Cessy, France, and Tony and Debbie Cox of Caddo Mills. His grandchildren number eight: Kellen of Fort Carson, Co, Garrett of Garland, TX, Riley of Caddo Mills, Ty of Milwaukie WI, Chandler of Lubbock TX, and John, Lily and Desta Cox of Cessy, France. John also has one great-granddaughter Jamesy, daughter of Riley and Lauren Cox of Caddo Mills, Texas. John is also survived by cousins, Larry Wright of Eaton, OH and David Wickline of Occidental, CA and one niece and nephew, Dan Cox and Gretchen Cox, both of Cincinnati, OH. There will be a memorial service on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel in Caddo Mills. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to mikeroweworks.org to assist a young person in the pursuit of a viable trades career.
