Obituary

Mary Holt, 84 of Gladewater, went to be with her Lord and Savior on the 15th of September, 2023. Mary was born to Melvin and Gladys Rash on the 8th of November, 1938. Mary Nell, met her husband-to-be at the Coffee Cup Café while having lunch with a friend and that turned into a beautiful marriage of 64 years. Soon after graduating from East Mountain High School, she started work at First State Bank in 1957 and remained in banking through several name changes until retiring from Capital One in 2003. After retirement, Mary and husband Onie enjoyed countless trips to Branson and Arkansas with many of the dear lifelong friends they have been fortunate to have. Once becoming a grandparent, our globetrotter became Mimi, always ready to cook something delicious, take a cruise, play a game, or give financial advice. Perhaps you can take the banker out of the bank but never the bank out of the banker! Her cast iron skillet of buttermilk cornbread could have won a prize and certainly did in our minds and stomachs. While our hearts are filled with sorrow at the loss of our beloved wife, mom, and Mimi, we know that she was blessed to be able to do the things she wanted in life, particularly travel– exploring the world and visiting all of the continents with the exception of Antarctica. We are grateful that she was able to be part of each of her grandson's lives, and see each of them graduate. She loved hearing about their adventures and was thrilled to welcome two beautiful great–granddaughters into the world. We would like to thank the special caregivers throughout this journey, Barbara and Alexis, who became dear to all of us and part of our hearts, as well as Family First Hospice who was an incredible source of support. To know her was to love her, and we will cherish our memories forever. Mary is survived by Husband Onie Holt Jr, Children: Ressa "D'Lynn" (Holt) Hitt and David of Farmersville; Grand-Children: Trevor and wife Taylor, Cole,Tristan, and Cade; Great Grand-Children: Ellis and Rainey; and Sister-in-Law Betty Rash. Mary was proceeded in death by Parents Melvin and Gladys Rash, and Brother Charles Rash. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Gladewater.
