Obituary

Myrtle Mae Walker-Harbaugh, age 96, went to her heavenly home on September 2, 2026, in Greenville, Texas. She was born on October 18, 1929, in Waynesboro, Mississippi, to Henry Walker and Lillie Mae Britton. Myrtle was raised in Waynesboro alongside her seven brothers and sisters and attended Central School. As a young woman, Myrtle moved to Mobile, Alabama, where she worked as a waitress at Constantine's Restaurant. In 1968, she relocated to Dallas, Texas and continued her career in food service at Southern Kitchen and Red Lobster. After retiring in 1992, Myrtle devoted herself to caring for others. She lovingly cared for her four grandchildren and opened a small children's day care in her home. Her compassionate spirit extended beyond children, as she also assisted elderly members of her community with their everyday needs. Those who knew Myrtle will remember her as a strong and steadfast woman who was never afraid to speak her mind. Beneath her firm exterior was a deeply loving and generous heart. She readily stepped forward to help others in their time of need. Myrtle was truly unforgettable and the memories of her distinctive voice, spirited personality, familiar ways and memorable sayings will remain with her loved ones forever. Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Ember; her grandchildren, Heather, Courtney, Charles, and Emily; her great-grandchildren, Layton and Lauryn; her siblings, Virginia, Paul and Nola; and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Walker and Lillie Mae Britton and her beloved siblings, Henry Jr., James, Ralph and Glen. Myrtle's strength, devotion and generous spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
