Rafaela "Liala" Casas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on July 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 79 years old. Liala was born on November 3, 1945, in Nueces County, Texas, to Santiago and Valentina (Angiano) Cortez. She grew up with a deep love for family and tradition, values she carried with her throughout her life. Liala worked briefly as a home health nurse, where her caring heart and gentle spirit touched the lives of many. But her true calling was in the warmth of her home, where she found joy in caring for her loved ones. A gifted cook, her homemade tortillas were a family favorite, lovingly made and always shared with open arms. She also had a special connection to the ocean, finding peace and beauty in its vastness. "She was known for her deep love and faith in God, a praying heart devoted to her family, and a loving, giving nature that touched everyone who knew her." Above all, Liala was devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 and a half years, Manuel Casas; her children Edward Casas, Santiago Casas and wife Amy, and Yvette Casas; her cherished grandchildren Ashley, Edward Jr., Alysha, Nicole, and Elijah; and great-grandchildren Cambralyn, Cobryn, Valentina, Zayden, Kynadie, Lorelai, Cooper, and Beau. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply. Liala was preceded in death by her parents, Santiago and Valentina Cortez, and her sisters Irma and Ellia. Her legacy of love, strength, and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
