Obituary

Ronald "Ron" Gene Sommers, 56, of Ladonia, Texas, passed away on November 27, 2025. Born on April 8, 1969, in Pittsburg, Kansas, Ron was the son of Billy "Bill" Sommers and Sharon (Leierer) Sommers. Gifted with remarkable hands-on skill, Ron spent his life working as both a carpenter and a mechanic, earning a reputation as a true jack of all trades. He worked as an aerospace machinist for L3Harris as a brake press operator, a role in which his precision and craftsmanship shined. Whether building, fixing, or inventing, he lived by one of his favorite sayings: "Necessity is the mother to invention." Ron loved the peace and freedom of the country, and spending time with his grandchildren. An excellent marksman, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, appreciating nature and the quiet moments it offered. He was also well known among family and friends for his incredible lasagna—famous in its own right and a dish many looked forward to. Ron cherished his amazing soulmate and love of his life, his wife Deborah "Debbie" Sue Sommers, who preceded him in death. Their bond was deep and unwavering, and he carried her love with him every day. He is survived by his children, Corey Gene Sommers and wife Courtney, and Amber Sue Russell and husband Anthony; and his cherished grandchildren, Harper Louise Sommers, Lyla Gaige Russell, Rue McKinley Russell, Aurora Cambry Russell, and Witten James Russell; his best friend, Bobby Skipworth; his father, Bill Sommers, and wife Carol He also leaves behind his sister, Angella Sommers Hart; nephews, Travis Hart and Dillion Hart; niece, Daurian Doriana Sommers; as well as a host of extended family and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon (Leierer) Sommers; wife, Deborah Sue Sommers; his brother, Timothy Michael Sommers; and his nephew, Justin Blake Hart. Ron will be remembered for his big heart, his resourcefulness, his sharp eye, and the countless ways he used his talents to help others. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the friendships he nurtured, and the many projects, creations, and memories that stand as a testament to his generous and capable spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
