Obituary

Terry Nelson, 79, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 23, 1947, Terry lived a life defined by dedication, craftsmanship, quiet strength, and deep love for those closest to him. He was married to his beloved wife, Sammie Nelson, for nearly 58 wonderful years—a partnership built on devotion, loyalty, and enduring love. At a young age, Terry learned the trade of auto upholstery, a skill that became not only his profession but his legacy. Through hard work and determination, he became a master of his craft and opened Terry's Trim Shop in 1972 on Lee Street in Greenville. For 52 years, Terry's Trim Shop stood as a trusted cornerstone of the community, where Terry built lifelong friendships and earned generations of loyal customers through his exceptional work, honesty, and character. In 2024, Terry proudly passed the business on to his longtime dedicated employee, Tony Byrne, whom he loved like a son. Tony continues Terry's Trim Shops' cherished legacy. Terry was a quiet man, a man of few words, but his presence spoke volumes. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh, and brought joy to those fortunate enough to know him. He had a deep appreciation for history, a passion for firearms, and truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including watching his favorite television shows, Everybody Loves Raymond and Two and a Half Men. These interests reflected Terry's curious mind, sharp wit, and love for both learning and laughter. While he was deeply respected for his talent and work ethic, Terry's greatest pride and love were always his family. He cherished his wife, Sammie, and adored their three daughters: Shannon Patton, Jennifer Nelson, and Tracy Nelson. He held a special bond with his son-in-law, Kevin Patton, whom he loved as his own son. Terry was also blessed with four beautiful granddaughters: Shyann Haught, Kelsie Patton, Kinsey Palmer and her husband, Triston Palmer, and Kassi Patton. His heart was especially full in the presence of his great-grandsons, Kohen and Kaden Palmer, whom he absolutely adored. Terry leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, love, and family devotion that will continue through the generations he cherished so deeply. He will be remembered not only for the beautiful work of his hands, but for his love of history, his passions and hobbies, the warmth of his humor, and the unwavering love he gave so freely to his family. His faith in Christ was a quiet but steady foundation, reflected in the way he loved his family, treated others, and lived each day. Terry is preceded in death by his mother Merle Garrison (2007) and youngest daughter Tracy Nelson (2011). Dad will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
