Thomas "Tom" Francis Thornton, 79 of Greenville, Texas passed away on July 5, 2023. He was born on January 13, 1944 to James Gerald and Katherine (McLaughlin) Thornton in West Chester, PA. Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He went on and spent a full career doing things he was well educated to do and that he loved. From July 1963 to June 1973 he worked as a Sr. Analyst/Instructor for the U.S Army Security Agency, from June 1973 to July 1985 a Sr. Engineer/ Analyst for E-Systems Inc. Greenville Division, from July 1985 to January 1988 as a Sr. Field Engineer for Lockheed Missiles and Space Co., Inc., from February 1988 to November 1988 as a Sr. Engineer for Martin Marietta Astronautics Group, and from 1988 until retirement as a Design Engineer for E-Systems, inc., Garland Division. Outside of work Tom was a quiet man, he enjoyed being outdoors going fishing or working with planting and growing flowers. In addition, he enjoyed wood working or listening to classical music. Tom leaves lasting and wonderful memories for his family and friends. Tom is survived by son James "Jim" Thornton; stepsons, David Murphy and wife Christie, Chris Murphy; daughter-in-law, Lisa Murphy; brother, Edward Thornton; grandchildren, Kenny Murphy and wife Hilary, Christa Poindexter and husband Andrew, Casey Murphy, Mitchell Murphy, Ashley Murphy, Rachael Townsend, Kristen Sterner; sisters-in-law, Tammie Wade and husband Donnie, Helen Thornton; many great grandchildren; along with a host of loving relatives and friends Tom is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Brenda Thornton; daughter, Cathy Sterner; stepson, Kendall Murphy; 3 brothers, Francis Thornton, Jerry Thornton, John Thornton; a sister, Kathleen Thornton A graveside service will be held at 10am on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville, Texas.
