Thomas
Witt
Dec 29, 1943 — Jan 9, 2021
Thomas A. Witt, Jr. went to be with the Lord at the age of 77 on January 9th, 2021 at his home in Greenville, TX, surrounded by his family. Tom was born to Tom, Sr., and Irene Witt of Knoxville, TN, on December 29, 1943. He graduated from high school a semester early and joined the Marine Corps in January of 1962. After getting out of the Marines, he graduated with his Associates degree from Decatur/Dallas Baptist Junior College in 1967 and East Texas State University in 1969 with a business degree. He felt the calling of his life was to be a Christian layperson supporting and serving the local church in volunteer ministry. Tom married Paula Kay Broyles, of Garland, on August 15, 1969. Together they lived in Garland and Lubbock before their young family eventually settled in a house they built in the country outside of Greenville. There they have lived for over 35 years and raised two sons and a daughter.
Tom had an incredible appreciation for songs and literature. Tom loved to sing, recalling the lyrics to obscure songs of his younger years, and often rewriting the lyrics to some of his favorite tunes. He especially loved to sing in church, loudly belting hymns with his strong tenor voice. Tom was a hard worker, both in his vocation and around the family farm. But in his down time, he enjoyed reading anything in front of him, from newspaper comics to textbooks. With his dry sense of humor, he was always thinking about how to turn a phrase or slip in one of his many catchphrases.
Tom is survived by his wife, Paula Witt, of Greenville; son, Tom L. Witt and wife, Tracy, of Greenville; son, Ronnie Witt and wife, Lacy, of Emory; and daughter, Annie Wetzel and husband, Jake, of Royse City; nine grandchildren, Tommy Witt, Caleb Witt, Trey Witt, Abbie Wetzel, Colby Witt, Ethan Wetzel, Cohen Witt, Isaac Wetzel, and Emma Wetzel; and numerous other friends and relatives. Tom is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Donna Lemaire; and brother-in-law, Ted.
